I can’t necessarily pin point what made me decide that it was MY time to get serious about my weight loss, but I can say that I’ve ‘thought’ I’ve made that decision many times before and it’s never worked out for me. This time was different.
I was referred to Dr. Isaacs and the HMR program by my OB/GYN, Dr. Jacqueline Fisch. She was adamant that I needed to get my weight under control and thought he would be able to help me. I visited him shortly after and was quickly swept into the world of HMR. When I joined the program, I weighed in at 307 lbs. I’d never been that heavy before and was a little surprised by the number. My health coach, Sylvie, asked me many questions and provided me with a lot of information during the orientation.
The two things that stuck out to me most were (1) Her telling me not to start the program if I didn’t have the time and will to dedicate to 14 solid weeks of doing the right thing for myself and my weight. This stood out to me because it made me realize that she was here for my journey and not for the payment associated with my journey. No one ever seemed interested in making decisions simply based on what my mouth was saying. They seemed interested in making decisions on what my actions were saying. Very refreshing! (2) When she asked me to really define what was going to make this time different then every other time. I didn’t have the answer right then, but I thought about this over the next few days. What I decided was that I needed to treat the program like my last chance. In essence, that’s exactly what it was. My mindset was that I HAD to be successful and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Now here I am, 7 months later and 85 lbs lighter. I’ve gone from 307 lbs to 222 lbs, from a size 28 to a size 18, and from a couch potato to a workout enthusiast. While getting this weight off is my first goal, KEEPING the weight off is my ultimate goal and I know that Phase 2 of the HMR program is integral for that. I give myself credit for what I’ve done, but also I owe a lot of credit to my health coach, Sylvie and Dr. Isaacs. Many people have asked me how this program was different then a lot of similar programs (I’ve tried them all!) and I can honestly say it’s about the connection I’ve made with Sylvie and my classmates. Those weekly classes are my saving grace! I’ve walked in, many nights, struggling and walked out feeling like I could champion anything.
I love this program. I am an advocate of HMR and Dr. Isaacs’s program set up/staff. I feel like they saved my life and have helped to make me a better wife, mother, sister, friend, etc. I don’t have enough Thanks to express how grateful I am to everyone who has been involved in my journey!!!
